In this story “I Like Dogs” ask your child: What dogs do you like? Big, small, curly, or spotty? After reading it a few times to your child, encourage them to read it you. Be a positive support and praise them for having a go. Let your child talk about their favourite parts of the story and ask them to retell the story in their own words. Point out a range of different alphabet letters and words you see on the page (e.g., Where’s the d for dog? What sound does a “d” make?).
Read together in a comfortable and quiet place and if the weather is nice, sit outside under a shady tree on a picnic rug. Remember to vary the sounds in your voice, talk about what you are looking at on each page, and most of all laugh together and have fun!
